For Kids & Families, Drop-in Art Activity
Sunday, October 23, 2016
Location: Peabody Essex Museum
Join us for special programs throughout the month of October to celebrate how drawing changes lives. This year's theme is STEAM, which brings together science, technology, engineering, art and math.
Artistic and creative thinking is essential to industries across the world. Look around you. The chair you are sitting on, the computer you use, the building you're in, all began life as a drawing. PEM is proud to once again be a part of this international community celebration.
AUTHOR PRESENTATION AND DROP-IN ART MAKING
Going Places with Creativity: Peter H. Reynolds & Paul A. Reynolds
2-4 pm | Morse Auditorium and Atrium
Included with museum admission
Get inspired to move full STEAM ahead with The New York Times best-selling author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds and his creative cohort (and twin brother!) Paul A. Reynolds. Co-authors of a series of STEAM-themed books for kids and the young-at-heart, (Going Places, Full STEAM Ahead, and Go Green!), the Reynolds brothers read from their books and share what fuels their creativity and art-driven innovation.
A book signing and drop-in art-making activity follows.
ALL OF OCTOBER
DROP-IN ART MAKING
Leave a Drawing/Take a Drawing
Using the supplies and drawing prompts provided on the Atrium Café tables, create a drawing to leave on our collaborative art board! See a drawing you love? Take it home with you! Share your creations on social media using #PEMbigdraw!
In-Gallery Drawing Challenges
Travel through the museum to discover four ongoing drawing challenges that explore concepts of science, technology, engineering and math. Create a pattern of curves using only straight lines, design an ocean liner that can transport people around the globe, draw a convex self-portrait, or create your own ecosystem. Share your creations on the "Leave a drawing/Take a drawing" board in the Atrium or post photos on social media using #PEMbigdraw!
