Massachusetts Poetry Festival at PEM (cont.)

Location: Peabody Essex Museum

Spend a full day immersed in poetry, starting with a Common Threads community reading and continuing with Cornelius Eady's music and poetry, best-selling author Marge Piercy and an exploration of California Design with poet Susan Rich.

Calligrapher Elissa Barr demonstrates the art of writing, from the traditional to the unique. Explore the tools of the trade, find out how nature inspires her work and try a few techniques.

 

DROP-IN ART MAKING

A Poem in Your Pocket

Carry your favorite poems with you wherever you go! Write, illustrate and then shrink your preferred poetry into a sturdy plastic keychain or bookmark. Or choose one from among staff favorites.

 

STUDIO DISCOVERY

Visualizing Verse
1-3 pm | Create Space

Join artist Yetti Frenkel as she shares her process of making mosaics to illustrate poetry. Then make your own colorful artwork.

 

DROP-IN ART MAKING

Altered Pages
1:30-4:30 pm | Atrium

Poetry is all around us! Discover a new poem from among the words in an altered book and create a visual and verbal masterpiece.
