At the age of 16 Nathaniel Hawthorne conceived and edited seven issues of The Spectator, a family newspaper that offered light-hearted commentary on the news of the day. Published weekly in August and September of 1820, The Spectator showcases Hawthorne’s wit and his writing, such as morality, vanity, fame, and fortune.
