Appledore Island
Since 1966, Appledore Island, Maine, has been home to the the Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML), a seasonal field station run by Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire dedicated to undergraduate education and research in marine science. 

SML also offers an array of public programs exploring a wide-range of topics in an island setting known for its history and unique flora and fauna:

Star Island
Star Island is home to the historic Oceanic hotel and the village of Gosport. The boat companies Isles of Shoals Steamship Company ("M/V Thomas Laighton") and Island Cruises ("Uncle Oscar") offer day or evening visits to Star Island.
