Salem, Mass. - The Peabody Essex Museum is proud to host a benefit concert for the Salem public schools on Saturday, February 9 at 8 pm in the museum Atrium. The concert will feature renowned jazz vocalist Dane Vannatter and his quartet. Tickets are $18 for members and Salem residents and $22 for nonmembers.
One hundred percent of the proceeds raised will be donated to the newly formed Salem Education Fund.
The Peabody Essex Museum has a long-standing connection with the Salem Public School system. Thousands of Salem K-12 students visit the museum each year. In addition, through the multiple-visit partnership program with Salem's elementary and middle schools, many of those students come to PEM at least three times in a year. These visits are linked in meaningful ways with classroom curricula. PEM also provides curricular resources, teacher professional development and a rich array of education programs and activities. These include the museum's Art & Nature Center, special events and lectures and student and education programs specifically designed to complement and enhance schools' curricula around the arts, history and culture.
"The more we learned about this unfortunate situation, the more apparent it became to us that PEM needed to help out," said PEM Executive Director and CEO Dan Monroe. "We are proud to be a constructive part of the Salem community, and this benefit is in keeping with our positive relationship with this city."
"Salem students have been welcomed at PEM with open arms for many, many years," said Peggy Fogelman, PEM's Director of Education and Interpretation. "We have always been proud to be a partner in learning with Salem's teachers and schools."
In addition to the benefit concert, PEM has made a $5,000 cash donation directly to the Salem Education Fund.
