Ansel Adams:
At the Water's Edge
Waterfalls, rivers, rapids, clouds, ice and snow — Ansel Adams sought out
water in all its forms, whether in the Hawaiian islands, the High Sierra or on New
England's rocky shores. Despite the challenges of such a dynamic subject
matter, he embraced a technology that freezes moments in time. With rapid
exposures and sharp focus, he pushed photography in new directions. By
showing that the camera could depict something as complex as a shifting
tide, or as subtle as the bend in a river, Adams captured qualities of motion,
time and sequence that the eye alone can't perceive.
