      Handprint Birds

As we transition into fall, many of the birds around us begin their annual migration to warmer regions. Flying south to find food and shelter away from the cold winter weather. Some of these birds are even showcased in PEM’s bird case. Follow these steps to create a flying handprint bird of your own, and keep an eye out for migratory birds.

      Supplies
      • Construction paper
      • Scissors
      • Pencils
      • Markers
      • Glue
      • Googly eyes
      Instructions

Step 1: Choose a piece of paper in your preferred color. Use your pencil to trace your hand on the page.

Step 2: After you have the outline of your hand, stack another paper of the same color under it, then cut the folded paper along the line. You should have two identical paper hands.

Step 3: Line up the thumbs on both pieces so that they mirror each other. Then glue them together. This will act as the base for your bird, where the thumbs represent the head and neck of the bird and the other fingers represent the wings.

Step 4: Now using a new piece of paper cut out feet for the bird and glue them to the bottom.

Step 5: Add finishing touches to your bird. Glue on some googly eyes, draw on a pattern or design with markers to make feathers.
